APIAs are often targets of racially motivated hate crimes, one of the more heinous violations of civil rights. Particularly, anti-Asian violence against South Asians rose after the Sept. 11 attacks. Perpetrators of hate crimes victimize individuals because of their bias or hate towards a person's race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.
